If you dared to ask 100 random people what is a blog, you would probably recieve 100 different answers. The reason for that is not that it’s tough to figure out what a blog is. The cause of the various responses is not that 99 people are wrong and one person is right. The reason for the differing reponses will be seen in the answer itself. I know that may sounds like doubletalk or beating around the bush but to say it plainly a blog is many different things to many different people. Obviously there is one technically correct response to what a blog is, but the true characterization of a blog is what it lets people do.

In order to get the technical description out of the way, a blog is a website. A blog is one of the most familiar if not the most widespread style of website that you will run across today. They were originally designed by software engineers to be used as a quick and easy means of keeping in touch with each other and recording a log or record of activities. The way the blogs are engineered makes it very pain free to keep them up to date with new content. The content can be updated by the owner of the blog. These updates are known as posts. The content can also be updated by visitors to the blog who post comments on the site. The blog creator also has the perogative to allow people to register as contributers of the blog and allow them to post their own articles. This kind of freedom is one of the things that has made blogs so very popular today. Having this degree of freedom also contributes greatly to the constant updates that are made to blogs.

Two of the most common uses of a blog are for a person to use the blog to help others and for internet marketing purposes. As they share this information they find that others are like-minded and will contribute to their blogs or become students of their blogs. There are large groups of people on the Internet who share a common interest and they visit each other’s blogs for information exchange and for support. There is something heartwarming and beautiful about that aspect of blogging. We are free to talk about what blogs mean to the folks who create and use them now that we have an idea of the way that people use them and what the technical definition of a blog is.
